Driven by the motto “from students to anyone who wants to learn”, since 2014, Hisar students have annually organized various workshops and offered training to participants from different schools and age groups in areas such as programming, design, animation, robotics and several fields of technology.

Hisar Coding Summit

Since 2014, Hisar Coding Summit has been organized to unleash and develop the potentials of our students in various fields of technology with the motto of “from students to anyone wishing to learn”. Our students organize a wide range of workshops and provide training for participants from different schools and age groups in various areas of programming, design, animation, robotics and technology for two days. Within a large framework from electronic programming, mobile application development, artificial intelligence and machine learning to 2D and 3D design fields, Hisar Coding Summit continues to grow each day as an inspiring and leading event in this area with its 15 different workshops and more than 300 participants.

This process improves our students’ capacities in various areas of technology while also helping them greatly to develop their capabilities for mentorship, leadership, entrepreneurship and organization.

Introductory Film

American Community Schools & American Farm Schools Innovation Summit
Under the guidance of the students of American Community Schools, who were inspired by the event of Hisar Coding Summit, the “Innovation Summit” was organized for the first time in 2017. With the subsequent organization of a similar event at American Farm School, a good cooperation was established for these three schools. In these events organized in Athens and Thessaloniki each year, both our students and the participants of their workshops return having gained valuable knowledge.

Hisar PiWars Turkey

PiWars competition, originally organized at Cambridge University, was held in our school for the first time in Turkey. PiWars Turkey will be organized in our school for the second time in 6-7 March 2020. In this event, in addition to competition, training is also provided by our students in the areas of 3D design, programming and fundamental electronics. As part of this competition, teams produce Raspberry Pi based mobile robots and compete with them in remote-controlled and autonomous tasks, such as completing an uneven racing track, finding the way out from a labyrinth, and shooting at targets.

The event is free, open to the participation of all high school students, and aims to support teams which are unable to buy robotics kits. This process increases our students’ knowledge about programming, electronics, and robotics, while also contributing greatly to their mentorship, leadership and organization capabilities.

Hisar Steam Day

On Friday, May 3, 2019, Hisar Schools Technology and Innovation Center, which started its activities in the academic year of 2018-2019, organized the “STEAM Day” event at the school campus. In the event, Mr. Hans van der Loo, an advisor of European Education and Sustainability Commission, which has more than 30 member organizations, and a representative of the European Union STEM Coalition, made the opening speech of the conference. Hans van der Loo addressed our academic personnel, students and guests by speaking about STEAM, the evolution of our world with it, and educational strategies. After the conference, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Çelik Kurtoğlu, a Board member of Hisar Educational Foundation, a panel was held with the participation of Hans van der Loo, Faruk Eczacıbaşı, the chairman of Eczacıbaşı Informatics and Turkish Informatics Foundation, and Onur Koç, General Manager Assistant in Technology at Microsoft Turkey.

Organized for the first time by Hisar Schools Technology and Innovation Center, the STEAM Day event will continue to be held each year with new themes, topics and guests to be determined in line with the developments in the area of technology and innovation.

IdeaLab Talks

IdeaLab Talks refer to the conversation series in which we unite specialist guests with our teachers in order to inspire our teachers in the fields of technology and innovation and help them follow the latest developments for studies in the area of educational technologies.

Science Talks

As part of our first event organized for Science Talks, which we started to hold for high school and secondary school students as well as the academic personnel this year, our guest Prof. Dr. Bilge Demirköz shared with us her depth of knowledge and experience on “CERN Projects, High-Energy and Particle Physics”. We aim to continue these talks, considered to be a valuable opportunity for our school and students, throughout the year and promote interest in scientific studies.

Science Festival

Held for the lessons and projects of the science department of Hisar Schools each year in April and May, the Science Festival provides a venue for applying and displaying projects of students, many of which are prepared throughout the year with interdisciplinary interaction, focusing on the areas of physics, chemistry and biology.

STEAM Project: I Design My Own Home

In this project, supported by the departments of Visual Arts and Computer Sciences, our twelfth grade students improve their real-life skills. For this project, each student designs 3D houses by completing them at school during math lessons.

The project provides answers to questions such as how to design a house, which steps must be taken, how to project a plan on paper, what type of programming language must be used, which methods must be used, how to prepare a budget, and how to use technology efficiently. Students complete the stages of design and artwork creation, supported by the Arts Department, and the budgeting and modeling, supported by the Computer Sciences Department, after which they prepare a project file.

This file contains house drawings, their scaled plans, cost tables (created both in Excel and Java programming language), and 2D and 3D drawings created with the drawing program called Fusion 360. In May, the twelfth grade students creating the project present this project file as well as the house models produced with Laser Cutter and 3D printers at school to the whole school.
