On October 20-23, Grade 8 students went on a trip to the Balkans. Our students enhanced/strengthened their knowledge on the topic; Four Cities and the Ataturk, which is a part of the “A Hero is Being Born” unit of the History of the Turkish Revolution and Atatürk’s Principles subject. During their trip which involved three Balkan Countries; in Thessaloniki they had the opportunity to see the house that Atatürk was born in, in Bitola the military school he attended to, and visit the town Sofia where he served as a Military Attache. They also had the chance to see the two towns which still embody signs from the Ottoman Empire; Ohrid and Tetovo. In addition, they saw the city where famous literary figures M. Akif Ersoy and Yahya Kemal were born and grew up in, Skopje which is the capital of the Macedonian Republic. Another important aspect of the trip was that it helped our students recall what they learned in Grade 7 on the history of the Ottoman Empire and reinforce their knowledge.
